I’m a professor in the field of Critical Data Studies based at the Information School, University of Sheffield, UK.
Critical Data Studies is an interdisciplinary field that uses critical social theory to examine the social drivers, implications and power relations of emergent forms of data and algorithmic practices. In my research and teaching, I work collaboratively with other scholars in the field of Critical Data Studies and related fields, as well as computer and information scientists who are engaged in the algorithmic processing of data. My specific research interests address topics such as cultures of data science practice; climate/environmental data; the socio-material shaping of data flows; labour issues in crowdwork platforms.
